Google is now looking to work on Gemini AI smart glasses with EssilorLuxottica, the company that makes Ray-Ban.
Google “recently approached” EssilorLuxottica about “putting its Gemini AI assistant in future smart glasses,” according to The Verge.
Given that EssilorLuxottica owns Oakley, LensCrafters, and Sunglass Hut, the Meta investment may jeopardize Google’s agreement with Oakley.
Meta isn’t the only technology company that tried to get in touch with EssilorLuxottica. ‘Google’ has also insisted on implanting the advanced Gemini AI assistant into eyewear devices, thus inadvertently crowding out Meta. This might lead to a vast investment from Mark Zuckerberg in this sector. However, there are also other reasons.
The stock price of Europe’s famous fashion and retail company, EssilorLuxottica, went up by 7% in the last 12 months, even though the cost of living has shot up globally, leading to a reduction in the profit margin. This is different from what has happened to most blue-chip companies based in Europe.
Google is not prepared to incorporate displays into eyeglass wearables yet, but a hypothetical gadget featuring a speaker, microphone, and camera could realize multi-modal Gemini functions. It would be like Google’s I/O 2024 demo using internal prototypes for Project Astra. This mixture looks respectable because it couples a music player with an image and video capture function.
How will Gemini AI assistant enhance the user experience on Ray-Ban smart glasses?
A powerful AI application where voice instructions are well understood even in noisy places is Gemini AI Assistant, which aids in such duties as real-time conversation interpretation, navigation, and note transcription, thereby improving Ray-Ban smart glasses utilization through an additional built-in app like having one’s secretary.
