Android 15 to Enhance Accessibility with New Color Correction

Android 15, the main upcoming update for Android devices, will be available later this year. Originally previewed in February, Google announced last month that the OS had gained “platform stability,” allowing developers to add its new features to their apps. This means that the update adds a new accessibility feature: color-correction intensity, designed to support color-blind users.

Introducing the Color Correction Intensity Slider

With references to Android Authority, it is predicted that, in Android 15, the color correction feature will be accompanied by the intensity slider. This will go a long way in helping users with color blindness make selections of color correction modes available depending on the type of color blindness. The intensity slider is expected to offer three settings: three levels, namely, low, medium, and high. The users will be able to manually set the required degree of correction to get closer to the actual vision deficiency, like deuteranomaly, protanomaly, or tritanomaly.

For this feature, there was no support in the Android 15 Beta 3.1 on the earlier released build this month; it was a manually toggled option that signalled the possible inclusion in the final build.

Additional Accessibility Enhancements

Apart from enhancing the color correction intensity, Android 15 is expected to come with other accessibility enhancements. One of the developed features is the ease of turning on the screen zooming function with the help of the new double-finger tap. This improvement will enable the target audience with a visual impairment to turn on the screen magnification without having to switch through settings.

There is also expected to be an “easy preset” that optimizes readability by enlarging the travel text and icons on the screen while providing the three navigation buttons that are located at the bottom of the screen. This preset will also add the functionality of enhancing contrast and making the text as well as icons clearly visible.

Public Release and Developer Availability

Recently, Google has declared Android 15 a platform-stable build that is already available in the form of a developer beta. A stable version of Android 15 and these new accessibility functionalities and improvements will be released to the public later this year.
